Historic judgment of the US Supreme Court: same-sex marriage legalized in all 50 states

27. 06. 2015

Yesterday, Supreme Court of the United States issued a historical judgment, stating that same-sex couples have the right to marry in all states of the country.

It was established that, since the Constitution guarantees equal rights to all, individual states cannot prohibit same-sex marriage, as has been the case so far. With this verdict, same-sex marriages became legal in all 50 US states.

"This ruling is a victory for America. This decision affirms what millions of Americans already believe in their hearts: when all Americans are treated as equal we are all more free," US President Barack Obama commented on the verdict of the Supreme Court.

To further underscore the support of the current administration for the rights of LGBT people, the White House last night was bathed in a rainbow of colors.
